Just because you don’t allow smoking in your apartment or condo doesn’t mean you’re breathing smoke-free air. In apartment and condominium buildings, up to 60% of indoor air is shared between units. Cigarette smoke seeps into adjoining units through doors, cracks in walls, lighting fixtures, windows, plumbing, and shared ventilation.
Secondhand smoke is a serious health hazard. It contains more than 7,000 chemicals, including 70 that are known to cause cancer.
